Look at your garden
As the winter time shows the skeleton of your garden you could take the opportunity to look at your layout. Consider moving shrubs or roses that have outgrown their space or maybe just looked out of place. Careful though – only undertake moving plants if the ground is not wet or frozen. How are your hedges looking? Now that the birds have taken most of the berries you could consider cutting back the straggly bits – but do wait until the birds have had their fill!
Gardens are all important to birds at this time of year, especially when the weather is frosty or snowy. You need to keep your bird tables and feeders well stocked. If possible provide some water, although it is always a challenge keeping it fresh. If you haven’t been too tidy you may have left some fallen fruit – this is a great source of food for the birds. You can always put some sliced fruit onto your bird table.
